Training An Akita
Training An Akita
The most frequently asked question I get, or almost the most frequently asked question, is “is training an Akita Difficult?” And the answer I always give is no, not if you do it right. In fact training an Akita is easier than you think providing you establish the fundamentals straight away.
With an Akita, which is a natural leader, you must establish your position as pack leader, this is crucial to your relationship with the dog and essential to training an Akita Crack this and training will be easy. If you fail to establish your position as pack leader then the training will be difficult if not impossible.
When you bring your Akita puppy home for the first time you should begin socializing it immediately to its new life. Your objection with training is simply to eradicate unwanted behaviour and to give the dog its boundaries.
The whole family must get involved in the training so there are no inconsistencies which will confuse the Akita. With such a big dog like an Akita getting the training right is crucial. Certain behaviour should never be accepted. Like jumping up for example maybe cute in a puppyl, but when your Akita is fully grown being pinned to the wall by him will not be a nice experience, so you need to socialize such behaviour out of him while he is young.
Dog training is not difficult, it’s simply a matter of eradicating unacceptable behaviour and encouraging acceptable behaviour, this is done by positive reinforcement, which should be on-going. By understanding the Akita’s temperament you can provide more focused training.
One of the unwritten rules of dog training is to avoid confusing the dog, this is especially true of the Akita; the dog’s natural intelligence will lead it to soon get bored if it is receiving conflicting messages. Operate on the rule that for each command there is only one response, only one. “Sit” means to sit, not to lay down, not to half sit, but to sit.
Keep practicing commands u7ntil the dog obeys instinctively without hesitation. Remember one command = one response. You will have to be repetitive until the dog understands. Keep your training sessions short so the Akita doesn’t become bored.
Training an Akita puppy is easier than training an older dog. That doesn’t mean you can’t train an older dog just that training a puppy is easier. A puppy is a blank sheet just waiting for your leadership. It will respond well to good training techniques.
Your voice is crucial to training your Akita. All dogs are super sensitive to what’s going on around them, they can pick up on emotions and will sense your moods. Always use the same strong calm but firm voice when issuing orders to your dog, never become impatient and angry. If you are getting fed-up with a training session then stop it. If it’s not productive then there’s no point doing it.
Training an Akita is no more difficult than training other breeds of dogs, in fact in many ways, because of the dog’s intelligence, it’s easier. It’s built on the basics of you establishing yourself as the pack leader, if you fail to do this then the training won’t work as your Akita will push to take command away from you. You must establish your position as pack leader and ensure the dog knows where he is in the pack. It’s you, all other humans in the house then the Akita. It’s as simple as that.
Once the dog knows this and accepts the training you will have a fantastic member of your family who will give you years of loyal friendship and protection.

You can retrain the dog that’s a fact, is it easy? yes providing you have the patience and devote the time to training it. Read http://www.japaneseakitadogs.org/training-your-akita/ Short training stints is the way to train an Akita because they get bored easyily. Make the training fun and never start a training session if you are feeling tired as the dog will be unresponsive.
This is simply an obediance problem and you can solve it by some training. It’s essential that you get the dog to come when you tell it to for its own safety. Here’s a quick tip I heard a long time ago, never tell you dog to come and then shout at him or scold him, this will deter him from comming to you in the future. Who’d go to a person that always shouted at you when you arrived? Always be pleased and show the dog you are plased when he comes to you. The “come” command is essential but many people have trouble with it because when they call their dog they are usually upset about something, either the dog has done something they are not happy with or they are impatient to get the dog back so they can go to work. These things show in the voice and the dog will pick up on them. so always be cal and pleasant when you command your dog to come and give him some praise. Spend time training the dog to come. If you are having trouble then maybe an obidiance school is the best way to go. Don’t stop until he obays the command because it’s essential you have him under control.
